Angry demonstrations by fans followed the dismissal of Eddie Gray. Certain board members didn't agree with it,
one even resigned and some fans called for the head of Leslie Silver. Silver the Leeds chairman soon found
the answer to pacify the fans and get them back on side, with the appointment of Billy Bremner as manager.
The Leeds United hero was the third Revie old boy in succession to be appointed and had been managing at Doncaster.
Bremner took over a Leeds that were strapped for cash. Elland Road even had to be sold to the council, with
Leeds having a 125 year lease on it. With that, the young team that Gray had been building was also dismantled,
including Ian Snodin who was with Bremner at Doncaster, he went to Everton the following season for £800,000.
Despite the lack of cash and a poor season finish in 1985-86 coming in 14th, Bremner had managed to get some
stability back to the club. In 1986-87 Bremner took Leeds all the way to the semi final of the FA Cup and to
the second division play off final, which they lost after a replay. But the average attendance was up and
things were looking good. The following season though, saw that winning Bremner formula lost, the side only
managed to finish seventh in the league. After a poor start to the season after, with Leeds winning once in six
games Silver finished Bremner as manager.
